My Family (aka The Plant Thief), synopsis: Before I get to the synopsis, I must say the plan to steal your planet's CO2 was not my idea. It was, and remains, my mother's life's mission to save our dying planet. This science experiment began in 1947, Earth time. When I was a teen, my mother went on an off-planet exploration and disappeared. I wanted to know why. My dad, his new wife, and brother wanted me to shut up about my mother. On Earth, in the guise of a wisen human, my mother gifted an innocent Air Force pilot with two small "Guide Stones." She created these AI stones to help my brother and me find her if she failed in her mission or our father betrayed her. The stones also contained a cache of encrypted scientific data that provided me - and my incurious brother - with an advanced scientific education. Yes! My mother — a scientist, an explorer, and a good gardener — was my hero. My brother believed she was an irresponsible egomaniac. In 1954, I tricked my brother into travelling to Earth with me. I needed to find our mother and help her complete her mission. Fortunately, we collided with the Guide Stones' tracking satellite and crashed on Earth. Instead of guiding us to Mother, the Stones lead us to SAM and RANDY, an Air Force nurse and cook. They rescued us. My name is BELLUS, and Sam is my wife, though in 1954, I legally married Randy. It was a marriage of convenience. I was an illegal alien. Randy was also Sam's cousin and son of the Air Force pilot my mom encountered. The scientific knowledge of the Guide Stones allowed me to interact with the most advanced scientific minds on Earth. Sam, Randy, and the humans we met became My Family. I was a happy alien on Earth. My brother, not so much. INVICTUS was never happy on Earth. He fought with Sam and Randy and discarded his Guide Stone. He had plans to save our home planet on his own. He went into the oil business to increase Earth's CO2 levels. He longed for the day he could impress our father. For 93 years, Invictus and I lived as humans. That ended when our long-lost mother stormed back into our lives in 2047. I know Invictus will decide to help her do whatever she wants to do. He wants to go home, even if he has to work with Mother. Now, I have the mother of all dilemmas. Do I choose to assist my mother in completing her lifelong mission of transferring Earth's CO2 to our dying planet? Or do I oppose my mother and try to save Sam, Randy, and Earth? I'm taking a moment to consider the consequences of each choice. The pause upsets Sam and Mother equally. And so My Family's story begins. Once upon a time, my mother was my hero...
