Great feedback from Slamdance Screenplay Competition: My Flesh and Blood moves at a delightfully brisk pace. The key moments that propel the story forward are well chosen, and scenes are short and efficient throughout. The interweaving of the scenes of Anima’s training and Tristan’s encounter with the council is particularly effective at ratcheting up the tension. Though information on what lies beyond the canopy is skillfully revealed just enough to maintain intrigue...The ritual scene starting on page 61 is creative, completely absorbing, and a perfect, climactic finish to a pilot. Excellent work on the series bible! The series arc is truly fascinating, wonderfully imaginative, and covers an astounding amount of ground. Any additional allusions to the expansiveness of the story that you’ve already created would only continue to strengthen the pilot. Great feedback from Austin Film Festival: We are plunged right into the conflict of this story from the very first page as we follow a panicked Callie. This ensures that we are invested in her story from the get-go. Within just a few lines, we are also introduced to Tristan, solidifying their bond and his protectiveness of her. I love that the writer denotes the fact that Tristan is mixed-race, though I would like a little clarity on just which races those are as it would help me to visualize him better in the script. Callie is pale-skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes, so we can picture her pretty easily. I enjoyed the blend of sci-fi and fantasy that make up the lore of this storyworld. It creates a unique and intriguing backdrop for the story. The motif of the clasped hands is a nice technique, both for scene transition and perpetuating the titular metaphor about flesh and blood. There is an intimacy between these two, a closeness that is palpable. And this bond is emulated later on by Tane's flirtation with Anima.
