This is the most recent updated version of Fishing with Elvis as of February 23, 2025. Set in 2007 and using actual historical events and people connected to them, the story behind this screenplay attempts to convince the reader of the possibility that perhaps the technology to travel in time does exist. The main character, David Young, is suddenly reacquainted with an old friend from his distant past. In a whirlwind induction into a highly classified organization, David is persuaded to entertain the notion that his old friend has a technological innovation that can be used to reduce the threat of a rapidly approaching worldwide climate catastrophe. With logical reservations, David is further persuaded to enter what he has been told is a time machine. Equipped with information concerning his mission and warned about the dangers in creating a time paradox, David is immediately transported to 1961 and finds himself on the set of an Elvis Presley movie. After a brief conversation and a Polaroid photo taken with Elvis, David continues his mission to hopefully mitigate the devastating effects of climate change. Upon completing his mission and returning to 2007, David is shocked to find his daughter has been severely injured in a vehicle accident and that Elvis Presley did not die in 1977 and is still alive. David quickly discovers that he was deceived by his old friend. Instead of trying to prevent the rapid advancement of climate change, he finds that he is directly responsible for assisting in the creation of the deadliest biological plague in the history of mankind. A plague specifically designed to drastically reduce the world population. David must now somehow find a way to correct the damage caused by his actions in 1961.
