Lina hates lying, is really bad at it, but does it kind of a lot. She learned it from her father, a Pakistani immigrant with a penchant for lying for absolutely no reason. He tries to mislead whoever he can, purely for his own amusement. Growing up in predominantly-white Kentucky and then Arizona, Lina lied for different reasons—mainly out of deep-rooted shame of what made her different. Lina is only truly honest in her writing, where she tells stories of people overcoming stigma against their own culture.
