Featured Evaluation from The Blacklist: Clever, darkly funny, and wholly original, G.O.G. tells an emotionally resonant and universal story about love, family, and the resilience of the human spirit in a way that is familiar but still totally its own. The script takes the "ghost-possession" premise and turns it on its head with fresh characters and a specific world and journey to explore. Leah is an exceptionally interesting protagonist -- likable, sympathetic, and driven, but still rife with flaws and contradictions that make her complex and interesting, and give her plenty of room to grow and arc. And Gramma Marjie (and the alter ego of Carina) make for a hilarious partner. It's delightful seeing Leah and her grandmother interact, but having Carina "pop back in" creates a more complex dynamic that really makes the story feel unique. The writer has a clear talent for dialogue too, showcasing a hilarious and original comedic voice in their own right, while still lending each character their own distinct point of view and voice. The romance with Ryan is grounded, organic, and sweet without being saccharine. And the ending, while bittersweet, strikes absolutely the right tone. All in all, just a delightful read. There's so much to like about this project in terms of its commercial prospects. It's got a clever, high-concept premise that's easy to pitch, and engages the audience right away. The writer has delivered in all the best ways on the old Hollywood adage, "Give me the same thing, only different." The grandchild/grandparent relationship really makes it feel specific and original. It also feels imminently producible, with limited cast, a simple setting, and a low budget, which just leaves more doors open to it in terms of possible homes.
