As a queer Black non-binary writer, Jess Waters focuses on the reimagining of history to create both grounded and fantastical explorations of Black and LGBTQ+ identity through a unique lens. Jess’s two most recent works are a short film called “The Divinity Streak” and a short film called "Gumbo", on Netflix Film Club and AllBlk respectively.
Jess Waters is a Black non-binary TV writer who writes stories about reconceptualizing queerness, Blackness, and family through a uniquely imaginative lens. A current fellow of the Artistic Standard TV Mentorship Program with a short produced by Netflix and Ghetto Film School, Jess has a proven record of sharp, timely narratives that resonate with a range of audiences, but ultimately center young Black women’s coming of age in dynamic and compelling ways. They are currently meeting with production companies and are open for representation.
