Additional Project Info

From Hannah: My cowriter, Jason Cortez, and I shared a love of psychological horror and twisty stories of teen woe. We conceived this concept back in 2017 and outlined multiple episodes and seasons before finally completing the first draft of the pilot in 2020. We were immensely proud and happy to start on the journey that was going to be "The Sands." In 2021, Jason was a victim of gun violence in a public park while working on a creative project with a friend. Losing him has left me both devastated and creatively drained. I miss my friend and teammate dearly. As it has been a few years since his passing, working on this script has been both painful and cathartic. I have used my own experiences with grief and trauma to refine the story we shared, so that we can finally share it with others. Jason had such a strong vision for this story and its potential--nothing would make me happier than to see that vision brought to life.
