STRIPPED SERIES OVERVIEW: STRIPPED takes us into a world that’s inherently titillating, but this show isn’t just T&A for T&A’s sake. By creating three-dimensional, nuanced characters, STRIPPED will humanize – not glamorize – stripping. The most compelling aspect of STRIPPED is its timeliness: a great vehicle to comment on the litany of gender, race, religious, and socio-economic based topics that are part of the current zeitgeist. As the “Everywoman,” Layne Roberts leads us into the world and confronts our inherent hypocrisy – we’re championing women’s rights… unless they're sex workers. Stripping is legal, yet the women are marginalized. This show tackles the notion of how progressive we are in theory versus in reality: do our actions reflect our words? STRIPPED challenges our very flexible views of morality. The other goal is to effectively merge the inaccessibility of the seedy world of stripping with the accessibility of the women's day-to-day lives. The dynamics of situations like dealing with a ne'er-do-well boyfriend, enduring humiliation from a vindictive crush, or being ridiculed by a condescending sales guy are all relatable. Any woman, regardless of age, status, or profession, has had these experiences. The series is set in small-town Texas. New York, LA, and Las Vegas encompass a high cost of living and progressive values, making stripping a more acceptable profession. But those are the exceptions. The majority of women dance as a last resort. It is not glossy. It is not glamorous. It is not “The Girlfriend Experience.” STRIPPED is sexy. It's funny. It's emotional. It’s provocative. And it is important. THE PACKAGE: • Script – Pilot: "T&A" • Series Bible • Script – Episode 102: "Take It All Off" • Outlines – Episodes 101-113 (seriously - ALL THIRTEEN EPISODES OF SEASON ONE WRITTEN ON SPEC) PILOT SYNOPSIS: LAYNE ROBERTS is riding high as a modern-day superwoman – great career as a partner at a prestigious Houston law firm, fancy condo that she shares with her handsome boyfriend, and a beautiful daughter, MEGAN, that adores her. But Layne is quickly knocked off her pedestal when she is convicted of obstructing justice on an old case. Left with no career or status, Layne is dealt another blow when she learns that her estranged father, KELLY, has died suddenly. She returns to her hometown of Beaumont, Texas, to settle his affairs, only to learn from Kelly's accountant, ALBERTO, that she has inherited his strip club, the L’AMOUR LOUNGE. After meeting several of the DANCERS and witnessing some of the club's drama, Layne knows that she wants nothing to do with this type of deviant business and the town she escaped. She tells Alberto that she intends to sell the club. But after conferring with longtime family friend HAM, Layne realizes she’s in dire straits: she has no immediate job prospects, mounting legal bills, and a looming custody battle with her ex, MARK. With these pressing circumstances, coupled with a newfound sense of purpose, Layne decides to stay in Beaumont and run the club. SEASON ONE TIMELINE: The timeline of STRIPPED’s first season is one year, starting with Layne's arrest at Christmas and ending with the custody hearing the following Christmas. But since the story cuts from her arrest to the move to Beaumont, the gist of the show is over six months (summer to Christmas). SERIES TONE/AESTHETIC: STRIPPED’s backdrop of small town Texas is a metaphor for the show’s central conflict of “traditional” values versus modern social mores, both in its narrative and visually. The sparse landscape and, at times, laconic pace, reflects an outwardly conservative Southern culture, which is juxtaposed with the garish, sexually-charged, and technology-driven environment inside the club. The diverse cast ranges in age, race, shape, and size. They are not polished or sophisticated, overly handsome or gorgeous. They are real. Music helps tell the story: classic country, blues, and rock blends with hip hop, pop, and EDM. Both the music and social media components offer excellent opportunities for fan engagement. Customers entering the club in STRIPPED are seeking a fantasy in the same way the other characters use the Internet to escape. Virtual reality is private jets and airbrushing; real life is dirt roads and pock marks. • SHOPPING AGREEMENT: Creative Screenwriter Productions (3/21/23-3/21/24) • OPTION AGREEMENT: A&E Networks (Nov 2016 to May 2017) AWARDS: • COVERFLY'S TOP 6% of ALL PROJECTS 2025 • TOP 7% of ALL COVERFLY DRAMA PROJECTS 2025 • TOP 9% of ALL COVERFLY ONE-HOUR TV PROJECTS 2025 • TOP 10% of ALL COVERFLY ONE-HOUR DRAMA PROJECTS 2025 • WINNER - Athena Film Festival LA Women’s Screenwriting Lab 2019 • OFFICIAL SELECTION - Script Summit Screenplay Competition 2019 • TOP 15% FINALIST - New York Television Festival Script Competition 2018 • WINNER - CINE PitchFest Presented by A&E: Be Original 2016 • TOP 25 FINALIST - WeTV: The WeScreenplay Television Competition 2016 • SEMI-FINALIST - Austin Revolution Film Festival TV Script Competition 2016 • TOP 40 TELEPLAY - Cinequest Screenwriting Competition 2016 • QUARTERFINALIST - Female Voices Rock Film Festival Screenplay Competition 2021 • QUARTERFINALIST - Final Draft's Big Break Screenwriting Contest 2015
