Divorced By 30 is a comedy in the vein of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER meets HITCH. Married to his high school sweetheart right out of college, Charlie is getting divorced at age 28, but since he’s never actually been out in the dating scene, he has no idea when/where/how to meet women. Recently out of a two-year relationship, Sam is a very spirited, blunt woman who befriends Charlie and agrees to help teach him how to date. REVIEWS FROM THE BLACK LIST (www.blcklst.com) WHERE THE SCRIPT WAS LISTED ON THE TOP UPLOADED COMEDY PILOT SCRIPTS LIST: REVIEW #1: "The authors have created a fun and modern comedy pilot with characters that draw us in immediately, and a world that is easy to invest in. Charlie is a highly sympathetic protagonist, and the authors do a good job of getting us up to speed with what happened in his marriage without drawing it out. The inciting incident hits nicely and propels the series forward by setting up Charlie's "low point," and the voiceover helps us connect to him. Hank is a hilarious supporting character who provides a nice contrast to Charlie's conservative viewpoints, as well as great comedic setups. The authors do a good job of fleshing out the world and introducing the main characters in the pilot, leaving us with a good sense of what we can expect in the series, and of where the characters are coming from, such as Sam's aversion to commitment, or Hank's tendency to be "intense" in bed. There are some great, subtle details that flesh out who the characters are, from Charlie's romcom DVD's to Hank's ability to pick up any woman with any pickup line. The tag is funny, and we can't help but want to tune in next time to see what will befall Charlie as he is propelled into the dating game. The script is a fun half-hour comedy with relatable characters, funny and natural dialogue, and a great premise. Because of the contained environs, the series would be relatively cheap to make, and can attract a broad young audience." REVIEW #2 "DIVORCED BY 30 is a well-written comedy with unexpected heart, a show about dating for Generation X. Thematically, it gets a lot of things right: How, for many 20-somethings, that ultimate commitment of marriage is simultaneously glamorized and terrifying. And how -- even if they haven't been out of the dating game for a decade -- the rules of dating can be frustrating, contradictory, and exhausting. Charlie is a likable protagonist, and, unlike in many scripts, his voice-overs actually add something to the story and overall tone of the pilot. Having a character keep a blog can be tricky as it easily grows stale, but the blog in DIVORCED BY 30 seems very natural: The show almost seems self-aware that the keeping of such a blog is a little pathetic... but just the thing a young divorcee might actually do. The script also has great act breaks -- well done!"
