About

aobff-square-extrablack.png?1721069232

The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival continues our 14th season with the launch of our first Genre Screenplay Contest!

Enter your COMEDY scripts (pilot, episodic, or short film) and make sure they're no longer than 40 pages.

Our Policy on using AI to read and score screenplays:

A.I. SHOULD NEVER WRITE SCREENPLAYS.
IT SHOULDN'T READ THEM, EITHER.

Technology — no matter how advanced — can never replace the human creative spirit. When a writer pours their heart and soul into a screenplay, they deserve consideration, respect, and constructive feedback from a real human expert… not artificial 'intellgence.'

At AoBFF we support independent artists every step of the way. We NEVER use A.I. in any of our Screenplay Contests or our Script Coverage Services — and we never will.

About The Art of Brooklyn Film Festival

The future of narrative storytelling is in the hands of the next generation of writers — and THE ART OF BROOKLYN believes in celebrating diverse creative voices from all over the world.

AoBFF is a an award-winning international film festival and platform designed to connect Brooklyn's vibrant indie scene with their peers around the world. Founded by working artists in 2011, we are an event and showcase for emerging creators and established voices.

We are generating significant growth each year with an expanding international footprint among audiences, filmmakers, screenwriters, and the entertainment industry. Over 35 of our premieres have gained distribution — and one became an HBO series.

We are a fully hybrid festival, producing live, in person screenings in neighborhoods across Brooklyn and streaming encore screenings and panels to an international audience, with studio grade DRM protection via the Eventive Festival Platform.

Equity is organic to our mission. We bridge the opportunity divide by making media accessible to everyone, including those who are underrepresented on either side of the camera.

We have a Transparent and Ethical Submission Policy in which every film and screenplay we receive until midnight of the last day of late submissions is viewed in its entirety and considered for programming. We never pre-select films for competition, fill a template or set our schedule before submissions close.

Rules

We accept entries of short scripts (Pilots, Episodic, and Short Films.) Entries must be in the COMEDY genre for this contest.

Scripts may be no longer than 40 pages to qualify.

  1. The draft of the screenplay that is submitted initially will be the one that is read and scored. A updated draft of a screenplay will not be re-read unless it is submitted as a new entry.

  2. All deadlines are at 11:59pm PST on the date listed. Any deadline alteration or promotion of any kind does not make any entry valid of a refund of any kind.

  3. There are no refunds for any submitted screenplay. Coupons may not be applied to previously submitted scripts.

  4. There is no limit on the number of scripts a writer or writing team may submit.

  5. Prizes are awarded per script and teams of writers are expected to divide prizes on their own accord.

  6. The decision of the judges will be final and cannot be contested in any manner. There is no score on a scorecard that guarantees advancement to the next level as advancement will be based on all scores in the competition.

  7. The contest reserves the right to delay announcements for any reason. Delay may last up to but never more than 90 days. While we never anticipate any delays, such delays will not alter the standing of any screenplay entry and will qualify no script for a refund under any circumstance.

  8. By submitting to the contest you are releasing your script to the film festival and its partners, and holding harmless the festival or any affiliates from any claims, expenses, and liabilities, including but not limited to invasion of privacy, defamation, copyright, libel, trademark infringement, slander, personal property infringement, etc.
