This screenplay is based on my YA historical novel BETSY AND THE EMPEROR published by Simon & Schuster U.S./UK (also published in French by Bayard Jeunesse and in 13 other languages by other publishers globally), and is the “Best Unproduced Feature Script" Winner of the Montreal Independent Film Festival, the winner of the Festival Napoleon in Paris, Finalist in Big Apple Film Festival, and the TV pilot version is the Finalist in the Dallas International Film Festival and a Finalist in the Vail Film Festival script competition. The novel is currently the #1 Historical Book on Coverfly, and the #2 Book Manuscript of the past year. It won the award for its film potential at the Festival Napoleon in Paris, is a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age and an American Booksellers' Association/Book Sense Pick for Teens. The "New York Times Book Review" calls it "an engaging novel, based on real events." Another screenplay of mine, "Saving Mark Twain", won the 2023 PAGE Awards Bronze Prize and won the Vail Film Festival Screenplay Competition, is the Winner of the Historical Genre in the ISA Fast Track Fellowship, the Winner of the Ridgefield Independent Film Festival Screenplay Competition, a top ten Finalist in Table Read My Screenplay, and a Top 5 Finalist in the Mystic Film Festival Screenplay Competition. When I'm not writing scripts, I'm a freelance story analyst in the film business-- previously for Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, and the William Morris Agency, and currently for screenwriters. I was also a reader for Final Draft, Inc.'s Big Break Screenwriting Contest. I have a BFA in Film from NYU. Recently, I wrote two scripts on assignment for Afterglow Pictures, a feature script (2023 Austin Film Festival Semifinalist) based on the epic WWII Adventure/LGBTQ Romance novel, THE GIRL FROM KRAKOW by Alex Rosenberg, and a TV pilot based on a mystery novel by Thomas H. Cook. I have a new TV pilot script, "Black Ranger" (based on Tim Ashby's novel, RANGER).
