Adam Grittner, a financial consultant devoted to following rules, agrees to help a client get out of a Multi-Level Marketing contract. Obsessed with keeping his word, Adam meets MLM recruiter Sandra Yun in a prison visitation booth as she does time for a mysterious felony. He’s dazzled by her salty cool and she, confused by his sincerity. Having just lost his mother, Adam is also sincere about fixing his relationship with Zeke, his affable lunkhead dad. Zeke makes nice with his son to stay in the good graces and pants of his girlfriend, Felicia, who’s angling to steal the house Adam’s mom left him. Adam manufactures reasons to visit Sandra, even breaking rules to smuggle her a cheeseburger. Touched by his enthusiasm, Sandra reveals that she’s serving 15 years for defrauding a charity she loathes. Adam has a brainstorm: while she’s locked up, he’ll recruit MLM partners for her business to finance an appeal to her case. “Only Enroll Assholes” is Sandra’s protocol for keeping a clean conscience while exploiting people. So Adam targets jerks, plying them with booze till they’re ready to sign up, dangling prizes like a date with a pornstar – and pulls in thousands of dudes. Yearning for a conjugal visit, Adam proposes and the couple marries in prison. Sandra wins her appeal, comes home with Adam and instantly suspects that Felicia and Zeke are plotting something. When Sandra asks about the older couple, Adam is protective of his dad, assuring her everything’s fine. A seasoned scammer, Sandra unearths evidence of Felicia’s plot but Adam’s too upset by her spying to believe her. Sandra feels disrespected and their idyllic romance turns tense and argumentative as they both fear they’ve made a mistake. Adam hangs out with Zeke for comfort – where his dad let’s it slip that he’s been helping Felicia take advantage of him. Sandra has a revelation: Felicia, as an asshole, is perfect for MLM. Sandra blackmails her into enrolling and Felicia crushes the MLM game to death, the house she was trying to steal no longer even on her radar. Adam takes Sandra to a live show of a band she’s always wanted to see, one he and his mom used to love seeing together.
