Blcklst.com PROFESSIONAL EVALUATION #1 Overall Rating 8/10 Premise 8/10 Plot 7/10 Character 8/10 Dialogue 7/10 Setting 8/10 REVIEW Logline A dying ORSON WELLES is haunted by UNICRON, the Transformers character he will voice in his last role. Strengths Much like the cinema icon it portrays with such courage and insight, "Orson" is original, introspective, and idiosyncratic. This is an unflinching and compassionate look at the rise and fall of a singular genius, framed through an incredibly unique and memorable device. While the thematic parallels between Orson Welles himself and the planet-devouring cartoon he would voice in his final role are questionable, Unicron is a welcome presence, offering a contrary voice, commentary, and unexpected pathos. It's poignant to see the auteur who directed "Citizen Kane" struggle to finance his final feature and find himself at last doing voice-over work in a project he doesn't know or care about. Yet this makes it all the more touching when Orson comes to the studio for the recording of Transformers to a mutually warm reception. The script takes us through the storied life of Orson Welles, in all the highs and lows, artistry and bombast, and while we cannot fully understand the man by the end, it's an engaging ride. Prospects: Orson Welles remains one of the 20th Century's biggest cultural icons, and there could be a lot of interest in a biopic. An animated feature is certainly an unconventional approach that immediately stands out. The Transformers element is intriguing and could bring in an interesting overlap of fans.
