Additional Project Info

Merry Outlaws is based on a true story which came to light in 1990, ten years after Jeff Cooper came up with the idea of the Rambo Gang. At the time, there was a lot of coverage in the media about this illusive gang posing as cops. Jeff had masterminded the perfect get-rich-quick scheme of raiding successful drug dealers at the peak of Florida’s cocaine wars of the 1980s. This story is a love letter to the heist drama. Jeff’s main motivation in starting the Rambo Gang is rooted in the inaccessibility of the American Dream. The “normal” way of doing things – finish high school, go to college, work a steady job – is not made for people like Jeff. Operating on the fringes of society, he can flex his boxing skills and add some action to fuel his need for living high on adrenaline – and drugs. Most of the characters who are still alive have been interviewed in depth and many of the stories happened in real life albeit modified for dramatic purposes.
