Additional Project Info
This pilot for a limited TV series is based on my award-winning YA novel published by Simon & Schuster (book publishing rights have sold in 15 languages globally) and true events. All film, theater rights to the book are reserved to me, and "Betsy and the Emperor" has a totally different perspective on Napoleon (as well as a very different plot, setting, tone, and much lower budget), than Sir Ridley Scott's movie. The TV pilot script is a Finalist in the Dallas International Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, and the Vail Film Festival. The feature film version of this script won "Best Unproduced Screenplay" in the Montreal Independent Film Festival and the top screenplay award at the Festival Napoleon in Paris. "The New York Times Book Review" calls BETSY AND THE EMPEROR "an engaging novel, based on real events." Writer, Chef, and TV personality Jacques Pépin writes: "This tender tale goes down smoothly, like a cool and fruity glass of Vouvray. BETSY AND THE EMPEROR is fun and witty, with a very human Bonaparte." I'm an optioned screenwriter, and wrote two screenplays (based on other writers' novels) on assignment from Afterglow Pictures, including 2023 Austin Film Festival Semifinalist script, "The Girl From Krakow" (a WWII Adventure/LGBTQ love story based on a book by Alex Rosenberg). My screenplay "Saving Mark Twain" is a 2023 PAGE Awards Bronze Prize Winner, Winner of the 2023 Vail Film Festival script competition, Finalist/Top 10 in the Genre for Table Read My Screenplay, won the Ridgefield Independent Film Festival Screenwriting Competition and is also a Genre Winner of the ISA Fast Track Fellowship, and a Top 5 Finalist in the Mystic Film Festival Screenwriting Competition. Coverfly selected "Saving Mark Twain" for a live, virtual script reading by The Storytellers Conservatory in Los Angeles. Numerous other awards recognition for my books and screenplays.
