COMPS Similar to shows like Empress and The Serpent Queen, THE HOUSE OF TANG takes a well-told history and creates a fresh perspective with nods to modern entertainment, yet with a classically dramatic voice that at once draws us into the intrigue of this world. SERIES PREMIS: Set in The House of Tang in 7th century China, against the backdrop of Silk Road politics and ruthless dynasty building, lives an international set of concubines gifted by their families to the emperor in order to secure their acceptance, rank, security and recognition. Pitted against each other by international power dynamics and family loyalty, these women all strive to bring their own flair and culture to the forefront. WU JAO desires the same for herself, but has no advantages, only her wits to rely upon. Each episode challenges her advance through the ranks of Concubine, Empress, and eventually China's first and only female Emperor.
