When an ex-confederate soldier and runaway slave woman are forced to head west to try their luck as settlers, they must contend with the wild dangers of the frontier: racists, prowling wolves, and their own broken pasts while trying to grow the scarcest crop of them all on their new land—their forbidden love.

Kayla Hardy is black woman of Louisiana creole descent, a topic she focused on during her time at Binghamton University where she earned her PhD in African American lit. Kayla's work focuses on black female led genre-driven screenplays and novels. Her fantasy novel THE QUARTER QUEEN is the winner of the Launch Pad Prose Competition.
Kayla holds a Ph.D. in African American studies which informs a lot of her writing. She is both a novelist and screenwriter who is very talented in the fantasy and drama space. The Quarter Queen is a reimagined magically and racially divided 19th century New Orleans, about the infamous Voodoo Priestess Marie Laveau. Kayla brings in some of her Creole background and history to the storytelling which brings an accuracy and a special touch that draws you into the story. I highly recommend reading The Quater Queen and escaping into 19th century Louisiana with a fantastical twist on the history of the French Quater.
