Hello and good day! We would like to present our speculative television series, HQ, a gritty cop show. HQ could be described as The Wire meets The Shield. With violent crime on the rise in NYC, it’s up to a hero cop and his team to take down a criminal organization and weed out corruption in the combative police headquarters. HQ is action-packed and pulls no punches when it comes to the depiction of violent criminal activities. The series places a heavy emphasis on realism. HQ features a large cast of distinctive characters, most of whom are compromised to some degree due to their desires, just like in real-life. Gangs, their affiliates, and their informants run the show; and we explore a wide range of stories all centered around the goings on of a police headquarters fraught with tension and double-crosses. There are even a few good guys trying to figure it all out. These will work to correct the wrongdoings and corruption as the series unfolds. For this pilot episode, after a police officer is tortured and killed by a psychopathic criminal, an investigation is launched into the murder, but not everyone within the police HQ wants the criminal to be found due to kickbacks being received from a Latin gang. A stalwart police sergeant refuses to back down against the corrupt forces within the headquarters who try to quash his investigation, and makes himself enemies on both sides of the law in the process. This series was co-created by Juan J. Ortiz and David Cenicola. Now retired, Juan J. Ortiz spent more than 20 years within the NYPD working predominantly undercover, and then rising to the top as a commanding officer. His real-life experiences provide HQ’s sense of realism, especially his time working the vice and narcotics unit within the scope of a federal task force combating gang enterprise. David has a background as a bestselling ghostwriter of crime thrillers and non-fiction novels in a career that spans more than 25 years. His books have been honored with the Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Memoir and Best Historical Fiction and the Casa de las Américas Prize for Narrative Literature. This series has legs and will bring in an entire new world of characters from across the globe. Though fictitious characters and events are used, it will expose the truth about what really happens within major police departments in our country, and why corruption is so prevalent right up to the mayor and governor along with everyone in-between. More importantly, it will give answers as to what can be done to fix the broken system of greed, racism, political maneuvering, and White privilege. Juan can be given the credit as the sole producer and David can remain behind the scenes as a ghostwriter. If you are interested in learning more, we can provide the series bible, the treatments, and our next 2 episodes. Thank you. Juan Ortiz and David Cenicola, M.Ed.
