Black List score: 8. “This is a beautiful, poetic heartbreaking meditation on modern love. At a brisk 88 pages, the scenes rush by like flickering memories, punctuated by brief surrealistic glimpses into both Juan and Ella’s psyches. The writer’s marriage of theme to image is something to behold. The characters’ relationships feel vibrant, believable, and complex in a way that’s almost always naturalistic. Executing an affective love-story is quite difficult as is – especially in our overly cynical climate – but the work here is so good, it makes one believe anything is possible.”
