Dear Screencraft, Thank you very much for giving our film, THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR, the opportunity to advance as a quarter finalist! As you make your decisions for the semi-finalists, we would like to share the following updates with you. Since our application in the fall, we have edited the film-within-the-film. This portion will be shot practically when we film the editing scenes of THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR. Our editor is Tricia Holmes, known for A LITTLE PRAYER (2023, starring David Strathairn and Jane Levy), THE SAME STORM (starring Sandra Oh, Mary-Louise Parker, Elaine May, Moses Ingram, and Noma Dumezweni), PALM TREES AND POWER LINES (short, 2018), LOST & FOUND IN CLEVELAND (upcoming film starring Martin Sheen, Dennis Haysbert, and June Squibb) and for her work as an assistant editor on various films and TV series such as THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL. In terms of our casting progress, we are currently utilizing our personal connections to reach out to name talent for the cameo role of Nancy (hoping to reach Helen Mirren and Rosie Perez) and are reaching out to Jason Ralph (known for I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS, THE MAGICIANS, THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL) for the role of Clark. We hope this casting helps with securing the rest of our financing. The script for THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR also won First Place in The Golden Script Fellowship this past October. Unfortunately H2L Media had to back out of the option part of the prize due to the WGA strike, we were still awarded $5,000 which we used to film some winter exterior scenes this past January 2024. These scenes will be in the main storyline of the film and having shot them now will allow us to film principal photography in any season, as the rest of the film can be shot entirely indoors (though it takes place in winter). We recently hired our first assistant director, Jennifer “Jenny” McCabe, who is a DGA member and has worked in the AD department on various films and TV series such as BILLIONS, FIRE ISLAND (feature film 2022), THE GOOD FIGHT, UNCUT GEMS (feature film 2019), FOR LIFE, THE VILLAGE, TELL ME A STORY, CITY ON FIRE, and THE BLACKLIST. We recently hired line producer, Chenney Chen, as well. Chenney is known for films such as EARTH MAMA (feature film 2023), MONICA (feautre film 2022), LUNCHBOX (short 2022), and various Telly Award winning commercial and branded content. Her work has received recognition at Venice International Film Festival, Cannes, SXSW, and Sundance. We have attached two budgets updated from our original budget based on our work with Chenney and Jennifer. We have budgeted for both a 12 day and a 14 day shoot.
