Diverse Voices strives to provide a contest that is purely focused on promoting and encouraging diverse voices and stories. The contest encourages stories that are told from perspectives – through the author and/or characters – that are often underrepresented in Hollywood today. The contest accepts Features, TV Pilots, Web Series, and Shorts – we’re looking for underrepresented perspectives in any format.

Examples of great stories that have had fresh perspectives in film include: Hidden Figures, Fences, Harlots, Bridesmaids, F to 7th, Master of None, Mad Max Fury Road, Broad City, Parvaneh, Empire, and so many more.

Diverse Voices winners have gone on to be signed by top Hollywood management companies and have had their projects optioned. Every winner receives a 3-month period to develop their project with a reader from Netflix, HBO, Fox, Disney, or another major network or studio. After the develoment period, WeScreenplay promotes the winners to managers and agents to help the writers get representation. The industry is extremely hungry for diverse perspectives and the contest has lead to many success stories. The grand prize winner also receives a $1,000 cash grant.
