About

Founded by filmmaker Jim Cummings (WINNER of the 2016 Sundance and 2018 SXSW Film Festivals), this week-long film lab in Los Angeles is an educational, preproduction program for short filmmakers to prepare their feature film for production.

"When I was a nobody, with zero connections in Hollywood, I got a team of friends together for a one day shoot and we made the Thunder Road short film. Whenever I'm down, I think about that. Forget the BS, you can make something great with your best friends." - Jim Cummings

The focus on the lab is filmmakers with short films -- this is exclusively for writers who have already produced a short film.

***For your written submission: Please upload a short script, pitch, treatment, or synopsis as a writing sample.

***For your film submission: Please share a link to Youtube or Vimeo for viewing. Include the password if necessary.

Benefits

This week-long lab for filmmakers takes place in Malibu, California and hosts 10 filmmakers with aspirations of turning their short film into a feature.

They join the Thunder Road team as well as professionals from all facets of the film industry for honest, off the record conversations about the future of film and how to make your feature the best film that it can be.

Along with a general education on the short to feature transition from our team, professionals with form-fit experience and filmographies will be paired with each filmmaker to provide the best path forward for each project.

This week will be a respite for each filmmaker to separate from social clutter and dive into their project, writing your script, workshopping with fellows, and enjoying fresh air and exercise.

This Lab becomes a lifetime of support and mentorship.
