About

MARCH 2020 UPDATE:
OUR EXTENDED DEADLINE SUBMISSION FEE WILL REMAIN AT $75

We are looking for well-written scripts with compelling stories and developed characters that explore and showcase HUMANITAS values.

A SIGNATURE HUMANITAS NEW VOICES STORY MUST:

  • Challenge us to use our freedom to grow and develop.
  • Confront us with our individual responsibility.
  • Examine the consequences of our choices.

Every year, NEW VOICES accepts hundreds of script submissions and selects up to five writers through a rigorous selection process. Candidates are asked to submit a writing sample and participate in personal interviews.

If they are declared a winner, they are matched with a mentor. The writers then have three months to further develop their script under their mentors’ supervision while receiving two rounds of notes.

After the script is honed, HUMANITAS sends it to a studio or network executive. The winning writers are recognized at the annual HUMANITAS Prize and are awarded $7,500.

Benefits

After the selection process, winners are matched with a mentor. HUMANITAS mentors have included:

Alan Ball, Jenny Bicks, Janine Sherman Barrois, Matt Carlson, Carter Covington, Liz Craft, Sarah Fain, Tom Fontana, Gary Glasberg, Gary David Goldberg, Marc Guggenheim, Hart Hanson, Felicia Henderson, David Hudgins, Jason Katims, Jay Kogen, Bill Lawrence, Ali LeRoi, Melanie Marnich, Rashad Raisani, David Shore, Robin Swicord, Pam Veasey and David Zuckerman.

The writers have three months to further develop their script under their mentors’ supervision. After the script is honed, HUMANITAS sends it to a partnering studio or network executive.

HUMANITAS partners with the following studios and networks:

  • ABC
  • CBS
  • HBO
  • NBC
  • Amazon
  • Sony
  • Lionsgate
