About

What do Men in Black, Kingsman, Oldboy, The Walking Dead, Watchmen, Umbrella Academy & The Boys have in common?

They all started as comic books.

The SCRIPT2COMIC Contest was created by leading film, television and comic industry professionals to provide a platform for writers to see their vision made real.

Submit your screenplay, teleplay, short script, comic script or short story for a chance to have it brought to life as a comic book series or graphic novel and published by one of the top indie publishers in comics.

Not only will the winning stories appear on shelves in comic and bookstores nationwide, they will also be developed into a film and/or television show by one of our sponsors.

This year's contest is particularly special because we have partnered with manga-powerhouse Kodansha, the publisher behind worldwide hits like AKIRA, Ghost in the Shell and Attack on Titan. The Grand Prize Winner will be adapted into a comic for publication in the US and have a chance to be adapted into a Japanese manga and animated series by Kodansha.

SUBMISSIONS

The Script2Comic Contest accepts online entry only of feature film, original pilot television screenplays, short film scripts, comic book scripts, plays and/or short stories. Entry should consist of a screenplay, teleplay, short film script, short story or comic book and graphic novel scripts only. Do not include resumes, pitches, casting suggestions, letters, or other supporting documentation with your submission. Judges will not receive these materials. No illustrations will be accepted.

A short synopsis should be submitted as part of the entry form.

The exception is original hour-long and half-hour TV entries, which may include standard supplementary materials, such as character lists as part of the teleplay. This information would need to be included within the same file, at the end of the script and submitted in PDF format.

No printed scripts will be accepted. To enter your script electronically, you must submit your script in PDF format.

All submissions should be of the length and format appropriate to the material: full-length screenplays (approximately 80 to 120 pages) or teleplays (hour-long approximately 40 to 70 pages, half-hour approximately 20 to 35 pages, half-hour multi-camera with double-spaced dialogue approximately 50 to 60 pages) in standard industry format for motion picture screenplays and teleplays, written in English. Short film scripts can be of any length less than 20 pages, but should be in appropriate screenplay format. Streaming/commercial-free format (e.g. no act breaks) is also eligible for television hour-long and half-hour entries.

Short stories and comic book or graphic novel scripts are also eligible. Short Stories cannot exceed 30 typed pages. Screenplay entries must be under 150 pages. Graphic novel scripts must be under 225 comic pages.

Title Page – to be fair to all writers, Title and any WGA/copyright info only on title page, no writer(s) name or contact info. This is captured on your entry form. Do not include your name or any personally identifying information on any page of your script or in the text of your synopsis.

Script file name must contain no last names or identifying information. Please note this information will be stripped by Coverfly so you will not be disqualified if you mistakenly submit a script with information in the name.

MULTIPLE ENTRIES

Entrants may submit multiple entries. Each submission must include its own entry and must include a separate file and separate entry fee.

CO-WRITERS AND PRIZE DIVISION

Screenplays or scripts written by up to three people may be entered into the contest. Only one entry fee is required for such entries. All writers’ names should be listed on the online entry. List the writer who will be the primary contact first, and include the address, telephone, and email for that person only. All writers must authorize submission of the entry.

REVISIONS, RESUBMISSIONS, AND REFUNDS

In order to run a fair contest for all entrants, revisions or missing pages will not be accepted under any circumstances once an entry has been received.

If the script is rewritten during the entry submission period, the writer(s) may resubmit a script as a new entry for consideration in the contest. A resubmitted script is treated as a new entry and requires an additional entry fee.

Once an entry has been submitted and payment has been processed no refunds will be issued. Be SURE you submit the correct file, no refunds will be issued and no scripts accepted via email if you contact us to inform us that you submitted the incorrect file. You will need to re-submit as a new entry if you choose to do so.

OWNERSHIP/RELEASE

Script2Comic Screenplay Contest entrants retain all rights to their screenplays.

Prize winning screenplays that are to be made into comic books and put into development for adaptation into film and/or television will enter into a deal with the financier, sponsor and/or comic producer for their property. The prize winners will have their winning script made into a comic book (either limited series or comic  [Grand Prize], “one-shot” single issue [1st Prize], or comic short story [2rd Prize, 3rd prize & Special Jury Prize]), subject to the prize winner entering into a development agreement with the financier, sponsor or comic producer. The prize winners will also be presented with a contract by the financier, sponsor or comic producer regarding the rights in and to the winning script for development into a film, TV series or other media format. If any prize winner elects to refuse to execute the agreements referenced in this paragraph, such prize winner will forfeit the entire prize, which will then go to the next eligible entrant selected at Script2Comic Contest, financier, sponsor, comic producer and/or judges' discretion.

By entering, you represent and affirm that your entry is an original creative work, and does not infringe, misappropriate or violate the copyright, trademark or other intellectual rights of any third party.

By agreeing to these Rules and Guidelines you agree that you have read the rules and that you have the authorization to submit this screenplay. You further agree that your screenplay is owned by you (and listed co-author(s)).

The Script2Comic Contest and/or judges’ decisions are final, and disqualification can occur. If necessary, prize substitution of relative equal value may occur and is at the sole discretion of Script2Comic and/or any financier, sponsor, comic producer and/or judges.

Potential winners must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Rules, and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. The potential winners will be required to sign and return to Script2Comic Contest, financier, sponsor and/or comic producer, as directed, within five (5) days of the date notice is sent (which may occur electronically), an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release (except where prohibited by law) in order to claim their respective Prizes. If a potential winner of any prize cannot be contacted, fails to sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within the required time period or if the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, or chooses not to enter into any of the agreements set forth herein, the potential winner will forfeit the prize. In the event that a potential winner of a prize is disqualified for any reason, Script2Comic Contest may award the applicable prize to the next eligible entrant selected at Script2Comic Contest, financier, sponsor, comic producer and/or judges' discretion.

Except where prohibited by law, participation in the Script2Comic Contest constitutes each entrant’s consent to Script2Comic Contest, its organizers and agents use of entrant's name, likeness, photographs, and/or personal information for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration, if entrant is selected as a winner.

By entering, you acknowledge and agree that the Script2Comic Contest, its judges, affiliates, organizers, financiers and sponsors receive numerous submissions of ideas, stories and scripts, and that your entry, and the ideas and stories embodied in it, may be similar or identical to other material already received and/or developed by one or more of the judges, affiliates, organizers, financiers and sponsors. You also agree that you are not entitled to any compensation or credit for use by Script2Comic Contest, its judges, affiliates, organizers, financiers and sponsors of any such other similar or identical material.

The entrant shall indemnify and hold harmless Script2Comic, Motor LLC, Thunder Comics, Scout Comics, Picturestart, Mosaic, our financiers, sponsors, producers, judges and their affiliates, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney’s fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, and/or publicity to the script, screenplay or other material entered.
